06 10 2007 - Armenian Genocide -- Vote in Committee Soon

The House Foreign Affairs Committee is planning to consider the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide on Wednesday, October 10. While the time and date of this session are still tentative, it is very likely that the Committee will take action to clear House Resolution 106 for consideration by the full House of Representatives soon.


As you know, I have worked to ensure that this bill has the support necessary to get through both the Committee and the full House of Representatives. Hopefully we will take an important step next week, overcoming one of the last obstacles to House consideration of the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

House Resolution 106 has six authors. I am the only author who serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee, and will be responsible for managing the resolution through the Committee. This will not be easy because we may have to defeat a series of amendments that are designed to weaken the resolution.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her tireless efforts over the years to pass this resolution.

We still have a long way to go, but I am pleased to report this progress.
