17 10 2007 - “SCREAMERS”, A BBC DOCUMENTARY ON GENOCIDES DENIAL SCREENED IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENTþ
« Screamers » a feature length documentary directed by Carla Garapedian was screened in the European parliament on 15/10 in tribute to Hrant Dink the murdered Armenian journalist from Turkey.

The documentary explored why Genocides have occurred into the modern day, and involved the rock band System of A Down, whose members are all grandchildren of Genocide survivors. With survivors from Armenia, Rwanda and Darfur the film unveils the problems of Genocide denial.

The director, Carla Garapedian, who attended the screening, had a discussion with the audience. She started by describing her experience while shooting the film and encouraged Europeans in general and policy makers in particular not to turn a blind eye to Genocide as they are happening and confront the hypocrisy of those, in Europe and America, who are actively attempting to block the process of genocide recognition.

She then insisted that the EU Parliament should be doing more to support those voices in Turkey who wish to, but do not yet dare, speak up on the Armenian Genocide, the tragic episodes of Turkey’s history and its current denialist policies.

She concluded: after the Armenian Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust, when we say “never again” we do really mean it.
