Some of the darkest pages of the Armenian Diaspora were written with blood during 1956-58 and had lasting effects on almost all Armenian communities throughout the world. Prof. Ara Sanjian's article deals with this "taboo" which is not known to the young generation that at times is baffled why we are so divided. People wonder why we have no unity of the church and in other areas. The latter are only symptoms. Attempts at redressing them is akin to applying a band aid. Without going into a detailed discussion I would humbly submit that for as long as we don't have visionaries of the stature of Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela there will be no national reconciliation, and regretfully I am not hopeful at all that Prof. Sanjian's lofty proposal will materialize in the near future except for publicizing the matter.
I have a suggestion though. Probably individual Armenians who earnestly believe that tearing down taboos and working towards Armenian National Reconciliation at least on one issue, no matter how few, could hold memorial services in African Churches in honour of all those who were victims of a shameful internecine war. Let those who ordered the bullets to be fired rejoice in their fiefdoms for the work they have carved.
