La traduzione armena del libro "La neve"* di Orhan Pamuk è stata presentata ieri a Yerevan. Il libro aveva valso il Premio Nobel all'autore turco amico di Hrant Dink.
La trama del libro si svolge nella ex-citta armena di Kars.

Investita da una tormenta di neve, la città è un miscuglio di etnie e fazioni politiche. Ci sono turchi, curdi, georgiani, nazionalisti laici e integralisti religiosi. C'è la polizia segreta, c'è l'esercito e ci sono i terroristi islamici. Ka inizia la sua indagine, mentre la neve continua a cadere e le strade vengono chiuse. Kars è isolata. In città, Ka rivede dopo diversi anni Ipek, una compagna di università molto bella. Ka se ne innamora e sogna di portarla con sé in Germania. Per realizzare questo sogno, farà di tutto. La situazione precipita quando una compagnia di teatro mette in scena un dramma degli anni Venti, scritto in sostegno della laicità dello Stato fondato da Atatùrk, dove una donna, coraggiosamente, brucia il chador in pubblico. Durante lo spettacolo alcuni giovani del liceo religioso inscenano una protesta. E la serata finisce nel sangue. Ka viene coinvolto suo malgrado. È uno spettatore imparziale, ma molto confuso. Non sa nemmeno rispondere alla domanda: credi in Dio? Sostiene che a Kars ha ritrovato Allah, ma poi l'unica cosa che gli interessa è la ricerca, molto occidentale, della felicità. Il dilemma di Ka ruota intorno al confronto tra Occidente e Islam.

The Armenian edition of the Nobel prizewinner Orhan Pamouk’s "Snow" novel has today been presented in the Office of the All-National Armenian Educational and Cultural Society. According to the head of the All-National Armenian Educational and Cultural Society Lilit Galstian, the "Snow" novel is more than up to date in the context of today’s Armenian-Turkish relations where "the hyphen separating these two nouns contains anguish, embarrassment and commitment, sorrow and consciousness of the tragedy of the Genocide".

L. Galstian noted that the author must provide permission for translating the novel: she was very much impressed when O. Pamouk, knowing that the book will be translated into Armenian, refused from the honorarium.

"O. Pamouk had to pay a high price for this book: having been expatriated he has to live in Boston now. But I’m sure that the bravery of such people give an opportunity to the two publics to launch an active dialogue", - L. Galstian said.

Prose writer Ruben Hovsepian said that the "Snow" novel is not a pure fiction book. It is after the "snow" when the black spots, history and ruined buildings are better seen.

The "Snow" is a classic novel with multilateral plot structure and plain context which uncovers the image of the modern Turkish society which lives with middle age Asian rules and everyday life built on inhumane, cruel traditions, betrayals and blood. The actions of the novel take place in the former Armenian Kars town. Seeking for the truth brings the hero, a vagrant Turkish poet, to Kars which is buried in obscurity and snow. From Russian the novel has been translated by Hakob Soghomonian by direct comparison with the Turkish.

The book has been published in 1000 issues in eastern Armenian and 500 issues will be published in Lebanon in classic orthography, Armenpress reported.
