Yerevan - Seventh annual Golden Apricot International Film Festival concluded July 18 with names of winning entries made public, Arminfo news agency reported.
Turkish director Reha Erdem's Kosmos won the Golden Apricot prize for Best Feature Film. Released at Berlin Film Festival last year, Kosmos is about a thief who works miracles in a film shot in snowy Kars.
Silver Apricot went to Sergei Loznitsa's Schast'e Moe (My Joy), which premiered at Cannes last May. Like Kosmos, My Joy is about an outsider who confronts a distopia, this time in a remote town in Russia.
In the Armenian Panorama competition top prize went to Arman Yeritsyan and Inna Sahakyan's The Last Tightrope Dancer in Armenia and French Armenian director Comes Chahbazian was runner up for Down Here.
Among those in attendance were Italian cinema star Claudia Cardinale, Canadian Armenian film director Atom Egoyan (who was seen filming the proceedings with a personal camera) and Armenian American director Allen Hughes.
Festival featured 120 films, of which 45 were part of the competition.
Director of Golden Apricot Harutyun Khachatryan told Arminfo that he "was really happy that so many well-known film makers have visited Armenia and have got to know and love our country."
As in the past, Armenia's leading cellular phone service provider Viva Cell was the festival's main sponsor.
