NAASR CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE TO FEATURE PHOTOGRAPHER HRAIR “HAWK” KHATCHERIAN
|
An illustrated talk by renowned photographer Hrair “Hawk” Khatcherian, entitled “Western Armenia: A Photographer's Journey to Discover His Cultural Heritage,” will highlight NAASR’s 2010 Christmas Open House on Thursday, December 16. The Open House will begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 11:00 p.m., with Khatcherian’s talk set for 8:00 p.m. The evening’s events will take place at the NAASR Center, 395 Concord Ave., Belmont, MA.
Both before and after the lecture, NAASR’s bookstore will be open and feature a one night only 20% off sale, with additional discounts of 40% or more on selected titles. Numerous recently published titles will be available. There will also be refreshments, music, and gift-wrapping.
About Hrair “Hawk” Khatcherian
Hawk Khatcherian is a Canadian-Armenian photographer best known for his series on Armenian churches around the world. A globetrotter and a pilgrim, Hawk has been to 44 coun-tries in the last 18 years photographing landscapes, portraits, nudes, and architecture. He has published seven books of photography, including Artsakh (1997), Karabagh: 100 Photos (2002), and Yergir: Pilgrimage Through Western Armenia 1997-2002 (2004).
The recently-published, limited-edition Armenian Ornamental Art, a collaboration with coauthor and designer Armen Kyurkchyan, will be available for purchase the night of NAASR’s Christmas Open House. “Since 1997 I have been discovering and capturing our heritage in historical Western Armenia, more than 20 trips and counting,” says Khatcherian. “This includes our cultural and spiritual heritage, as well as the natural beauty of these Armenian landmarks.” A new book, 2 Yergir is in the works, dedicated to historical Western Armenia and Cilicia.
Admission to the event is free (donations appreciated). The NAASR Center is located opposite the First Armenian Church and next to the U.S. Post Office. Ample parking is avail-able around the building and in adjacent areas.
