@Welcome to the Center for Armenian Remembrance (CAR)
Armenians have a history which spans more than 4000 years. From the valleys and mountains of eastern Asia Minor and Mesopotamia the original Armenian country of Hayq, later Hayastan was born with the merger of local tribes. The name Armenia was given to Hayastan by its neighbors, after the strongest tribe of the Armenian Highlands, the Armens.
The Armenians have always been a proud and strong people striving to better their collective condition. However, history has not been kind to the Armenian people, especially in the last 120 years.
Since the Hamidian Massacres of the 1890s, the Armenian Genocide of 1915-23, and the Baku, Azerbaijan massacres of the early part of the 20th century, almost 2 million Armenians perished at the hands of Turkish aggression and a million more were forced from their ancestral homeland, never to return.
Although the plight of the Armenian People was well known in the first quarter of the 20th century, by 1939 the world's attention was elsewhere Adolf Hitler used the forgotten Armenians when making his case for Holocaust:
Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formations in readiness for the present only in the East with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish (Jewish) derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space (Lebensraum) which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?
--- August 22, 1939, Adolf Hitler.
This site is therefore dedicated to remembrance of our History, Culture and People, as well as, activism to write our own future. So, "Never Again" will be a reality, for Armenians, Jews, Cambodians, Rwandans, and all the people of the world.
