Secret is out: U.S. Nuclear Weapons in Turkey, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany
Posted: 2010/12/11- From: Mathaba
Thanks to WikiLeaks, we now know that the United States of America has nuclear weapons in several European countries, without the knowledge of their populations

It will come as a surprise to millions of Turks, Dutch and Belgians to know that without their sanction, these governments have allowed the USA to station tactical nuclear weapons on their soil.

Russia, China, Israel, France, India and Pakistan all have intelligence agencies with extensive resources, as well as their own nuclear programs, and would likely have also come to know the locations of those weapons, thus putting Turkey, Belgium and Holland into unnecessary danger.

It has long been public knowledge that Germany, having been occupied since the second world war after defeat by the Americans and British, have had U.S. nuclear weapons and many U.S. bases on their soil, leading to the largest opposition movements in that country against weapons of mass destruction.

The news came buried inside a longer telex from the United States of America's embassy in Berlin, that was sent to the U.S. Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the "European Collective Political Priority".

Following is excerpt from the cable which was send on the 12th of November, 2009:

TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS

¶8. (C) In response to Gordon's question about how the
government planned to take forward the commitment in the
coalition agreement to seek the removal of all remaining
nuclear weapons from Germany, Heusgen distanced the
Chancellery from the proposal, claiming that this had been
forced upon them by FM Westerwelle. Heusgen said that from
his perspective, it made no sense to unilaterally withdraw
"the 20" tactical nuclear weapons still in Germany while
Russia maintains "thousands" of them. It would only be worth
it if both sides drew down. Gordon noted that it was
important to think through all the potential consequences of
the German proposal before going forward. For example, a
withdrawal of nuclear weapons from Germany and perhaps from
Belgium and the Netherlands could make it very difficult
politically for Turkey to maintain its own stockpile, even
though it was still convinced of the need to do so.

The cable addresses several other issues including Afghanistan, the Middle East, Iran, the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Bosnia, Macedonia and Serbia.

It is one of over 1,000 cables that have so far been published by WikiLeaks, with some 250,000 cables remaining to be published. For its own security WikiLeaks has zipped up in an encrypted file a massive dump of all the files in its possession, which many around the world have possession of. WikiLeaks would release the password to the file presumably if it's transparency freedom mission is compromised.

So far most governments and media organisations, and even WikiLeaks itself, have focused on the messenger rather than taking a detailed look at the cables. Many of these have been "shooting at the messenger" instead of looking at the message, and this is also one of the reasons WikiLeaks is now releasing documents on a daily basis.

The reaction of the public has generally been that this is something they would be happy to follow for the next 7 years, to learn more about the real world they live in, and has caused a massive backlash against governments including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's home country Australia.

Australia has been revealed by the cables to be a mere outpost of the United States, with several citizens spying against the party-political democracy for the U.S., and even organising a coup which ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and installed Julia Gillard as a chosen agent for the Americans.

Australian media have only in the past week started to focus on WikiLeaks and Assange, and his Australian citizenship, as well as the appalling opposition to him by the Australian government of Julia Gillard, after being forced to do so by the sheer volume of information circulating on the Internet and the Mathaba independent news network concerning these issues.

The result has been a rapid rise in support for Assange and WikiLeaks with demonstrations currently taking place around the country and growing in momentum. Australians will want to know from the U.S. government currently occupying Canberra whether there are nuclear weapons on Australian soil or territories.
