1. LANGUAGE LECTOR -- PERSIAN

Yale seeks a full-time Lector in Persian language beginning July 1, 2012 for a three-year term, with possibility of renewal. Primary duties include teaching five courses per year, these including elementary (2 courses) and intermediate (2 courses) in the target language using an integrated skills approach. The fifth course will focus on literary, social, political, cultural and/or sociolinguistic topics related to the target language (as determined on the basis of the appointee's qualifications and expertise). The Lector will advise students and participate in program building in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, developing the broad curriculum and the pedagogic materials for the target language. He/she will also participate in organizing overseas language courses and provide relevant support for federally funded Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships.
Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in the target language; 2) strong English communication skills; 3) experience in teaching the target language as a second language in a college or university environment, ideally in the U.S.; 4) an M.A. or other advanced degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. applied linguistics or teaching Persian as a Second Language); 5) demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for Persian language instruction. Further desirable characteristics include some expertise in second-language teaching/acquisition, knowledge of overseas language and related study sites, experience with technologically-aided language learning methods and their development, interest in the broader field of Persian and Iranian Studies and/or other relevant disciplines and regions. Salary is commensurate with experience and background.
