06 02 22 - OMBUDSPERSON OF AZERBAIJAN MAKES STATEMENT ON ANNIVERSARY OF KHOJALI GENOCIDE

As is informed, the Ombudsperson of the Azerbaijan Republic Elmira Suleymanova made a statement related to the 14th anniversary of Khojali genocide.

The Statement says the Armenian nationalists along the history have committed crimes, terror acts and genocide against the People of Azerbaijan. Falsification of truth, the attempt to create the image of “distressful nation” along the history were the major tactical method of the Armenian separatists obsessed with chimera on the “Great Armenia” during realization of their strategic intentions. Numerous historical documents testify that else in 1905-1907, 1918-1920, 1948-1953 hundred thousand of Azerbaijanis, undergone to the politicy of ethnic cleaning and genocide in their historical lands on the Caucasus, in the mass order has been killed by the Armenian nationalists, were deported from their homelands.

The Armenian aggression untied from 1988 against Azerbaijan also is violent continuation of this dirty policy. The then management of the USSR which have not given of any political estimation to demonstrations of the Armenians in February 1988 appeals of annexation of Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia, has not taken necessary measures, that after a while has led to destruction and burning of the Azerbaijani settlements in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, the massacre of innocent people.

The military units have made the next attack on the city of Khojali located on the forward of front line. The tragedy made 14 years ago, at night on 25 February to 26th, by the Armenian armed units together with 366th motor-shooting regiment of the former Soviet army in the city of Khojali located in the Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, is one of the crimes, which has not analogue in history of wars.

As a result of Khojali genocide accomplished by the Armenian aggressors against Azerbaijanis, 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were lost. 487 people became invalids, 1275 peace inhabitants have been captured. The destiny of 150 missing people still remains unknown.

That terrible night when innocent children, women, old men have been killed, when has been wiped out the whole city, in the history of mankind there happened a monstrous tragedy, and genocide. The act of evil and vandalism villainy accomplished by the Armenian aggressors should be considered along with the tragedies of Khatyn and Songmi, recognized by progressive mankind as genocide. The policy of terrorism pursued by Armenia already long years occurs on eyes of world community. In spite of the fact that the Security Council of the United Nations has accepted four resolutions on unconditional liberation of the occupied lands, the aggressive Armenia still ignores them.

Having noted, that the Azerbaijan side makes permanent efforts directed on peace settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Ombudsperson has emphasized exclusive merits of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in this cause.

Especially having emphasized activity of President Ilham Aliyev in the cause of exposure of the aggressive policy of Armenia, Ms. Suleymanova has noted, that owing to the purposeful policy of the head of the state, the Council of Europe for the first time has recognized Armenia as an aggressor, in official documents of PACE has found reflection the fact of continuation of occupation of Nagorno Karabakh and 7 more regions of Azerbaijan by Armenia.

Finally, the application says that the Khojali genocide, being mass and rough infringement of human rights, still has not received the legal assessment internationally, not taken against terrorist radical measures, expresses confidence that the authoritative international organizations will support the fair position of Azerbaijan, that the culprits of aggression against Azerbaijan, originators of the Khojali genocide will answer before the international court, that the Armenian terrorists who have made tragedy and their patrons will be involved in the criminal liability, and that international structures will apply sanctions against Armenia which has transformed genocide in a component of its state policy.
