The Armenian government will be happy to receive the Azerbaijani football team and fans and to ensure their security, Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan told UEFA Chief Executive Lars Olsson at a meeting. Lars Olsson said that the UEFA is expecting similar guarantees from the Azerbaijani side as well. Baku has immediately sent a denial message. The president of the Azerbaijani Football Federation Association announced that the Azerbaijani team would not be able to go to Armenia. He said that it is also unacceptable for Armenian football players to come to Baku.
In the local football derby on Saturday 8 April, Omonia defeated Apoel 1-0 at GSP. The upcoming match between Apollon and Omonia will possibly decide the 2005-2006 title.
Cyprus threw a 2-1 sets, four games to one lead in the doubles, when the Davis Cup tie against Bulgaria was tied 1-1, eventually losing 3-2 the doubles. Marcos Baghdatis won his two games, Photos Kallias lost his two games and having won the doubles, Bulgaria won the tie 3-2.
