The Institute for Armenian Issues, established in 1977 in Munich, Germany, has launched its website - www.haydat-institut.org . The institute advocates Armenian issues, including the Genocide issue, the protection of the rights of Armenians in Turkey, as well as social, educational, cultural and religious issues of Diaspora Armenians.
Armenia's ambassador at the Eurovision song contest Andre, announced at a conference that Azeri "fans" had threatened to kill him. He also said that besides his website being hacked he had also received offensive and threatening letters on his e-mail.
The Budapest court continued the trial of Azerbaijani serviceman Ramil Safarov charged with a murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margarian. The murderer was allowed to have a final
word. Despite the efforts of Safarov's lawyer, the judge said that the defendant's guilt is already established and that the latter was sane while committing the crime. Imprisonment term may span from 30 years to life imprisonment. Verdict is expected to be announced on April 13.
OTE said it was examining options to sell its 90 percent controlling share in Armenian operator ArmenTel that serves approximately 595,000 fixed-line telephone subscribers and 345,000 mobile phone service customers, while its annual turnover is an estimated 110 million euros.
On Thursday, March 30, 2006, the Permanent Missions of Armenia and Rwanda, and the Armenian General Benevolent Union, organised a Forum on genocide and its prevention at the United Nations entitled "Genocide Then and Now: Lessons Learned for the Twenty-first Century." Professor Dadrian spoke about impunity and denial as contributing factors for repetition of genocide. Prominent psychologist Yael Danieli focused on the psycho-social aspects of genocide. During a brief question and answer session, a Turkish professor, participating at the Forum, made an unsuccessful attempt to divert the discussion by making comments in the spirit of denial.
Arne Vagen, the head of the International Bureau of the Danish Council, participating in the conference on migration that opened in Yerevan on April 4, announced that 250-300 thousand citizens with higher education left Armenia in 1989-2001, moving mostly to USA.
Several Kurdish American organisations organised a demonstration against Turkey's oppressive and brutal policy toward Kurds. The demonstration took place on Wednesday, April 5 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in front of Turkish Consulate General of Los Angeles.

The President of the European Parliament was joined by the leaders of its political parties in strongly approving the body's decision to send a delegation in Djulfa, in Nakhichevan. The aim of the mission is to investigate the destruction by Azerbaijan of the Armenian cemetery in Djulfa, a treasure of world architectural heritage that was effectively destroyed and replaced by the Azerbaijani military.
