700 ARMENIAN CYPRIOTS ATTEND UNPRECEDENTED ELECTION GATHERING ON SUNDAY NIGHT
An unprecedented election gathering - unheard of even for community events - was attended by more than 700 Armenian Cypriots who showed up at the Conference Center on Sunday May 7, to rally around the candidacy of Vartkes Mahdessian at the election gathering organised by his Election Committee.
Accompanied by his proposers Yeghia Boyadjian, Apraham Yacoubian, Dr. Antranig Ashdjian and Albert Tutundjian, Vartkes Mahdessian made a grand entry to a cheering crowd and set the election mood high for the forces of change.
It was evident that the support around candidate Vartkes Mahdessian was coming from the cross-section of the Armenian community, that was getting ready to vote for a candidate who had touched their hearts with his sincerity, professionalism and generosity.
After Nayiri Mouradian's opening remarks and Dr.Antranik Ashdjian's opening speech, Vartkes Mahdessian took the floor and outlined the accumulated problems of the community. In a spirited speech he called the Armenians of Cyprus to stop the avalanche of mismanagement and power politics and bring about the much anticipated change based on reconciliation, meritocracy, transparency and a meaningful working relationship between the government, Parliament and the community.
Mahdessian then gave the opportunity to community members to ask questions and express their views.
SURPRISE OF THE NIGHT.... FINALE WITH ANDRE
At the end of the election gathering, Armenia's ambassador at the Eurovision Song Contest, Andre made a surprise entry at the Conference Center and took the floor singing Armenia's maiden song at the contest, sending to frenzy the capacity crowd who now cheered for both Andre and Vartkes.
The message from the evening's gathering was complete. "VOTE ANDRE, VOTE VARTKES"
The evening was concluded by a reception gathering.

INTELLECTUALS OF PRO EDVCATIO, WARN VOTERS NOT TO CHOOSE THE CANDIDATE AFFILIATED WITH THE AGBU
"Cypriot Armenians have an awesome responsibility to all Armenians in Diaspora regarding the survival of MEI when they chose their representative. They should closely examine each candidate's position in the MEI Crisis. Any candidate, affiliated with AGBU, who has not severed his ties from CBD and has not taken steps to ascertain the limits of its authority regarding MEI, is in conflict of interest and is ignorant of the facts. Such a candidate should be viewed with extreme suspicion as to his ultimate position in the Crisis and should be rejected by all Cypriot Armenians who believe in the MEI and its mission... "

MELKONIAN ALUMNI LEADERS OF WWW.MELKONIANFOREVER.ORG FROM CALIFORNIA CANCEL BRIEFING AT AYMA
Gibrahayer Nicosia May 5, 2006 - Former students of Melkonian who had organised a briefing by officials of the California Alumni Association currently in Cyprus, informed Gibrahayer Emagazine, that the briefing regarding developments in the Melkonian issue - that was planned at AYMA last week - has been unfortunately cancelled by the Melkonian Alumni representatives.
Former students of Melkonian said to Gibrahayer that they were disappointed for being sidelined again. One former student a graduate of 1995, said. "Unfortunately power politics of the establishment showed what they are made of, sidelining former students, this time evaluating that a Melkonian briefing at AYMA would not look good for election purposes."

Re: Nareg Secondary School So the Government of Cyprus has offered to extend the "secondary" school at Nareg in Nicosia, and the Armenian representative Vahakn Atamian was said to be “absolutely thrilled with the decision".
Is this what he has been working on all this time?
Who needs the Melkonian when you can have a secondary school with maybe 5 - 6 students in each class, and only from Nicosia?
Now they can get on and "redevelop" the Melkonian estate.
They seem to forget that the Melkonian was set up to educate students from all over the Diaspora, this seems very much like a "I'm alright Jack".

STATEMENT OF THE WEEK BY ARF Dashnaktsoutiun Bureau rep. Hrant Markarian. "Justice will be served by creating a united Armenia and bringing all Armenians together. Dear Simon,
Thank you for your informative newsletter which makes me feel aware and part of a larger Armenian community than my local one. It is very empowering to know you have brothers and sisters living, prospering, and working to the same end in terms of genocide recognition all over the world.
I am a member of the mySpace community online, and a participant in many discussions about the genocide between Armenians, non-Armenians, and Turks. One Turkish participant recently suggested that Armenians take their question to an international court. I did some research and it seems that the International Criminal Court can investigate and prosecute the Turkish government for genocide against the Armenian people, however a State Party which is a member must make the recommendation for the Court prosecutor to establish a case.
The United States is not a member, however Cyprus is. Perhaps your community can organise a campaign to encourage the members of the State Party of Cyprus to make a referral to the Court. This way we can have a international forum and ultimate resolution to our quest for justice and recognition. Here’s their website: http://www.icc-cpi.int/
Thank you,
Ani Minasian

Under their watchful eyes, Harutyunyan has been practising more than five hours a day, topped with an intensive gym program.
On May 13 Zaruhi travels to Bolis - Turkey for two hard court ITF tournaments. The first from 15-20 May at the Enka Sports Club and the second at the TED ITF from 22-27 May, 2006. PANDA SOFTWARE CYPRUS - Panda Software's Weekly Report on Viruses and Intruders
A worm, Nugache.A, the backdoor Trojan Hiviti.A and the Banker.CTD Trojan are the focus of this week's PandaLabs report. Nugache.A can spread in three different ways: exploiting the LSSAS and
RPC DCOM known software vulnerabilities, through the popular MSN Messenger application, or via email. When installed on a computer, Nugache.A creates a copy of itself in the Windows system directory, in a file with the name MSTC.EXE. In addition, it generates several Windows registry entries. Having done this, it opens several communication ports to connect to a series of IP addresses from which it receives remote instructions across P2P networks, allowing an attacker to take malicious action on the affected system. You can now fully integrate the new Panda ActiveScan on your PC. It can be downloaded from: http://acs.pandasoftware.com/marketing/installactivescan.exe
